Dave Filoni has officially been named the Chief Creative Officer of George Lucas’ production company: Lucasfilm.

The Star Wars vet, 49 – who notably has helped helm successful projects such as Ahsoka and The Mandalorian – revealed the big news while talking to Vanity Fair in an article published on Tuesday.

‘Now, I’m what’s called chief creative officer of Lucasfilm,’ the writer and producer informed the outlet, adding that he will now have a chance to be involved in projects from the beginning of the development process.

‘In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways.’

Upon being named the CCO, Filoni will also start working alongside the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, and also head of development, Carrie Beck, on future productions.

New role! Dave Filoni, 49, has officially been named the Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm – who has helmed successful projects such as the Disney+ series, Ahsoka; seen in March in Los Angeles

Dave added, ‘When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.’

Filoni has been heavily involved when it comes to the Star Wars universe, having been one of the executive producers on The Mandalorian – starring This Is Us actor Pedro Pascal.

He was also a director for episodes in the Emmy award-winning show as well as a writer. The star was given similar creative duties in the 2021 series, The Book Of Boba Fett.

Most recently, he created the Disney+ series, Ahsoka, which first premiered earlier this year in August and cast Rosario Dawson as the titular role of Ahsoka Tano, as well as Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker.

He also wrote and was the executive producer on the show, which followed, ‘former Jedi Ahsoka Tano investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy after the fall of the Galactic Empire,’ per an IMDB synopsis.

The eight-episode series finished airing last month in October, and garnered positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, Ahsoka currently has a score of 86%.

Dave was also involved in animated projects, such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars which aired from 2008 through 2020, and later created Star Wars: Rebels (2014-2018).

While further discussing his new role at Lucasfilm, Filoni expressed that, ‘I’m not telling people what to do.’

He added, ‘But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.’

Reflecting on the years he has spent working at Lucasfilm, he stated, ‘Literally, hours now of Star Wars storytelling I have done,’ and humorously added, ‘See…I even phrased that like Yoda.’

In terms of the future, Dave previously announced earlier this year that he is currently developing another Star Wars film which he is slated to direct.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is set to take place in a time between the films Return Of The Jedi (1983) and The Force Awakens (2015).

A second season for Ahsoka is also a possibility to be developed. ‘To truly help filmmakers, it was really important for me to experience it firsthand,’ Filoni admitted.

After garnering two decades of experience, Dave continued, ‘I can also lend a perspective on the challenges that telling stories will present.’

‘I feel more capable of actually being helpful outside of just saying, “Well, Jedi are like this, Sith are like this…”‘
